We are asking you to bring your apples to our Farm Festival and Open Weekend on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September, and exchange them for cider or fresh apple juice!
Purton House Organics has teamed up with Nick Howard, owner of local cider company The CiderCircle, who will offer free cider or cash in return for donated apples. Local Entreprenuer Nick says: “I’m always on the look-out for apples. We live in a time of rising fuel and food costs, and yet all this fruit is going to waste in people’s gardens, mainly because people just don’t know what to do with it. It’s great to ask people to bring their apples to the Purton Farm Festival. What better way to produce an ecologically sound and local product, that includes the people of the locality too? They give us their unwanted fruit, and in return I offer them cider or money for them. It’s a win-win situation, and also a chance to have a great day out too!” The CiderCircle will be at the event on the Saturday only, although donations can be left both days.
The farm has also joined forces with SCAN ( Swindon Climate Action Network ) to borrow their apple press machine for the weekend, so those who want to can turn their apples into fresh apple juice! “It’s been great to be able to borrow the apple press from SCAN,” says Liz Brackenbury, Event Co-ordinator for the Farm Festival. “It means people can bring their own apples and containers, or buy our organic apples from the farm shop, and turn their fruit into fresh apple juice to take away and enjoy!”
